Allium sativum, Knoblauch (de), Garlic (eng)

Medicinal Plants being descriptions with original figures (1880)

Garlic (ENG)
Originally native of the steppes of Central Asia, but, already in antiquity, the plant was spread all over Asia and Europe.  It is mentioned as a medication in a variety of ancient texts.  Garlic has been used for a great number of diseases, especially as a diuretic and anti-congestant, as a remedy for intestinal worms, burns and toothache.  In addition garlic was considered as a preventitive against illness in general and as a protection against sorcery.
